Just few minutes before ARIN has announced that they got only 2.39 /8 IPv4 Address. Well what exactly is /8? Let us explain.
/8 is nothing but the CIDR that determines the subnet of the IP range. According to ARIN, they got only 2.39 /8 IPv4 left. This might seem like its about to get empty in few weeks. But technically it is not.
A /8 IPv4 CIDR has 224 IPv4. To be exact,
1 /8 IPv4 = 16,777,214 IP’s
2.39 * /8 = 16,777,214 x 2.39 = 50,331,642 IPv4
So, no need to worry right now. But in near future we ought to. Coz, our Internet need ate more than 200 /8 CIDR within this short span of time. Hence from now on, whenever you’re applying for an Extra IP, think twice whether it is really needed.
